Portfolio Stewardship

What we do

URS Advisory supports investors, family offices and owners in realigning and managing their existing portfolio companies on an ongoing basis.
In doing so, we work as an equal partner with management, co-shareholders and governing bodies.

We provide support when a portfolio company veers off course or transitions and periods of change call for particular attention from owners.

Together with management and governing bodies, we clarify what needs to be done, establish a viable direction and steer implementation, including over the long term.

Company

Digital platform for private photovoltaic solutions, from purchasing and renting to solar-panel installation.

Situation

Zolar grew faster than its existing governance structure could keep pace. As a result, decision-making pathways between shareholders came under increasing pressure.

Role

The mandate included board representation for a shareholder as well as responsibility for the company’s governance and strategic direction.

Outcome

Decision-making capacity was maintained during the period of strong growth. Zolar grew to around 400 employees and closed a financing round of more than €100 million.

Company

Software and analytics platform for pricing and hedging long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs). Pexapark supports energy suppliers, project developers and institutional investors in assessing market risks.

Situation

As organizational complexity grew, key decisions on leadership and strategic direction between investors and management became increasingly demanding.

Role

The mandate included supporting the strategic direction, mediating between investors, management and technical leaders, and supporting the appointment of key leadership positions.

Outcome

Decision-making structures were clarified and leadership continuity secured. Key transformation initiatives were also advanced. With around 100 employees in Zurich, Pexapark developed into an established market standard for price transparency in power purchase agreements.

Company

Technology provider for the energy sector with a hardware-adjacent, patented solution in the field of grid infrastructure.

Situation

The technology-driven scale-up went through several international financing rounds with different co-investors. Capital allocation and the balancing of interests among shareholders had to be actively managed across multiple financing cycles.

Role

The mandate included supporting capital allocation and the financing rounds, as well as mediating between founders, management and an international investor group comprising corporate venture units and specialist VC funds.

Outcome

The capital structure remained resilient across multiple financing rounds, and investor confidence was maintained. The company developed into a technology provider with several patent families and industrial partnerships.

Company

Investment platform for energy infrastructure within an international group, with holdings in growth companies in renewable energy and electrification. The portfolio comprised companies with combined revenue in the hundreds of millions and around 600 employees.

Situation

Engaged externally to support the transition of the investment platform. The mandate required simultaneous succession planning and the maintenance of existing and changing governance to ensure continuity during a carve-out and merger.

Role

The mandate included supporting the leadership transition, the carve-out and the preparation of the merger in direct collaboration with the ownership side and supervisory board.

Outcome

The leadership transition was completed. The platform was successfully carved out and merged with an international VC/PE partner.

Company

Family with diversified private wealth comprising real estate and various liquid assets. Initially, no dedicated investment office existed.

Situation

An exceptional family situation made it clear that fragmented assets and unclear decision-making structures put the long-term financial stability and provision for family members at risk.

Role

URS Advisory was responsible for building an investment office structure for private family wealth. This included consolidating the overview of assets, developing an allocation logic, and designing governance and decision rights across generations.

Outcome

A resilient structure was established with defined allocation logic, clear governance and transparent decision rights — designed for continuity across generations.

Company

Independent investment and dialogue platform under the Adapt Your World label. It connects investors, technology providers and companies around the investment thesis of climate adaptation to protect assets.

Situation

Protecting assets and infrastructure from climate impacts such as heat, heavy rainfall and wildfires had been largely overlooked as an investment opportunity. Capital focused primarily on reducing emissions, while adapting to increasing extreme weather events received little attention.

Role

URS Advisory initiated and led the platform, developed the investment thesis, built the network and brought investors, technology providers and companies together at a flagship conference at Nymphenburg Palace in Munich.

Outcome

120 participants and investors representing more than €10 billion in assets under management were brought together in Munich. Members of the community invested in companies in the field of climate adaptation.

Who we are

Active Ownership

About

URS Advisory was founded to provide investors, family offices and owners with professional Portfolio Stewardship. We take on or complement the management of holdings — with commitment, independence and entrepreneurial judgment.

Ulrich Seitz

Ulrich Seitz, Managing Partner

“Being entrusted with other people’s important decisions is a privilege. Lasting value is created in particular through continuity and the judgment to recognize when to lead and when to listen.”

Over the past fifteen years, I have built, strategically guided and managed holdings in the energy, software and industrial manufacturing sectors. This included international board mandates, building and managing an investment holding company for BayWa r.e. AG, as well as building an independent investment and dialogue platform.

Through this work, I experienced first-hand what professional Portfolio Stewardship requires: asking the right questions, bringing interests together, taking responsibility and assessing decisions over the long term.

With URS Advisory, I now bring this experience to where it is needed. Our role is to adopt the owner’s perspective: to assess developments, ensure governance, prepare decisions and take responsibility wherever additional seniority or capacity is needed.
